Big Feelings
By Elizabeth and Sylviah Seeliger
This book is colorful, whimsical way to explore feelings with Emotisnails. It uses velcro Emotisnails that makes it a very interactive book to name feelings in different situations.
Emotions included are brave, loved, proud, left out/hurt, scared, and shy, to name a few. Once we can identify our emotions we can more effectively communicate and avoid communication breakdowns.
There is also a Big Feelings YouTube channel! You can find the book read in ASL here.
You can purchase this book from the publisher here.
The Loudest Silence
By Sydney Langford
Casey is a teenager who recently lost her hearing and her dream of being a singer. She also recently moved from Portland, Oregon to Miami, Florida. She doesn’t want to draw attention to her hearing difference in her new school but soon finds some new friends that embrace her and stand up for her when she is bullied.
This is a book about finding your tribe. Casey finds an ally in Hayden who wants to follow his own dream. They celebrate their differences and discover we’re all more alike than different.
This is a book of triumph. Everyone one needs to find their voice to communicate their own hopes and dreams whether they are hearing or deaf.
While this book is set in Miami, I loved the references to my home in Portland, Oregon.
This is an awesome book for middle school through adult readers!
