A Little Mic, A Big Change

Kalee learned at the end of Fourth Grade that she has a unilateral hearing difference. She received a hearing aid at the end of the school year so she didn’t have much time to get used to it before summer vacation. She discovered she liked it at home and was able to communicate better with her family. Then school starts again and so does the frustration.
Kaylee is having a hard time navigating all the background noise and needs to figure out how to advocate for what she needs. Kaylee works really hard but is not sure what she needs. Enter her friends who start by figuring out how to keep Kaylee from feeling left out. As she figures out communication strategies, her TOD (teacher of the deaf) and her audiologist help her find the tools she needs to be successful.
These are issues all of our kiddos must navigate. As a mom I wish we had this book when my daughter was growing up!
You’re No Different Than Me

No one likes to be perceived as different. This is the story of how Martell figures out how to fit in and embrace his deafness in a new school. He quickly learns that making friends is not as hard as he thought it would be. The humor in this book is wonderful and a great way to break the ice with Elementary School students.
